The Earth lies in ruins in the aftermath of an extraterrestrial invasion, the land devastated by a desperate war with no winners between mankind and a race of vicious, intelligent creatures. The seas are drying up while the atmosphere corrodes and slowly cooks any life remaining on the now desolate rock. Food is scarce, trust even more so, and the only people left alive all have done horrific things to stay that way.

Among the few survivors is Lucas, an ordinary man hardened by the last few years after the world's end. He's fought off bandits, murderers, and stranded creatures on his long trek across the country in search of his family, the one thing that drives him to outlive his dying planet. What he finds instead is hope, something thought to be lost in the world. There's a ship buried in a crater wall. One of theirs. One that works. To fly it, Lucas must join forces with a traitorous alien scientist and a captured, merciless raider named Asha. But unless they find common ground, all will die, stranded on a ruined Earth.

Combining gritty post-apocalyptic survival and epic space opera, The Last Exodus is the beginning of a new action-packed science fiction adventure where the future of the human race depends on its survivors leaving the past behind.

The Last Exodus (Audible Audio Edition) Paul Tassi, Victor Bevine, Audible Studios Books Reviews

I chose 5 stars because at the end of book one only awe remained. Never mind the few, very few, " now wait a minute" thoughts when one or another of the main characters, mostly the alien, did or said something not alien. I cannot verify the actions of the survivors, would gangs roam, merciless ? Would others establish communities? Would cannibalism run rampant? All I can say is this book struck a cord. Somewhere deep in side me is "what if....". I thank this book for answering at least part of that question.
The story and setting are interesting. The characters felt pretty unrealistic though. There author has a bad habit of telling instead of showing. We don't see the characters bonding, we are told they feel a closer bond to each other and expected to believe it.
The Last Exodus is the best end of the world SF book I've read in a long time. It is a well-conceived story relayed in an orderly fashion that doesn't indulge in boring and incomprehensible infodumps. I have little understanding of physics and am quite content to enter a work of fiction that is based on a fictional reality. To enjoy this book you need to accept the possibility of unexplained scientific knowledge that allows for worm-holes and faster than light speeds along with a world of other amazing technology. Mr. Taxi provides the reader with three wonderful characters in a fast-paced, "action packed" adventure. And for me, that was enough.
One of the best books I've ever read! It begins as a post apocalyptic book, done better than any I've read. At the same time, and moving forward, it's sci fi, and just as incredibly good.

Ever single part was exceptional, though I especially loved how the relationship between Lucas ( human) and Alpha (alien) evolved.

The writing was superb, the story fast moving, and ended at a good place.

Kudos to the author, I am really looking forward to book two, which I'm about to get right now!
The story is a refreshing take on the typical apocalyptic story line, and it has some modern ideas. I came to this book after giving up on Scalzi's Old man's war series, book two. I couldn't take the old-school thinking of Scalzi's and his limited view of the future in the second book (I, however, enjoyed the first bok in the series despite the same old-school thinking and ideas presented in the book). In The Last Exodus, there's clearly a lot of thought given to how the future might look like, and how people in that future would deal with circumstance, or how other worlds might function as a society. (It may or may not not be scientific but at least it doesn't repeat the cliches and already outdated ideas from many otherprevious books.) As pointed out by other reviewers, the first volume in this trilogy also has a different development of events than most doomsday sci-fi story lines. The writing is great, and the story is well developed. I enjoyed the book.
Apocalypse stories are all the rage lately, with films, shows, and books like World War Z, "Walking Dead," and "Falling Skies" as variations on the theme of humanity struggling to survive in the face of a worldwide cataclysm. Paul Tassi's The Last Exodus mines familiar ground--a world devastated by alien attack, with most of the population wiped out--and does something unexpected by avoiding all the usual tropes.

Most of the time, the "end of the world" in fiction is figurative, but here it's literal. Earth is a dying piece of rock. Groups working together are the exception, rather than the rule. In a story that begins with no hope for the human race, it goes to AMAZING places. I literally could not put it down.

The Last Exodus is a classic sci-fi adventure with modern sensibilities. The characters are fully-realized people and fascinating to follow around, scarred by living through the end of the world but still so very human(except Alpha, who isn't human but fast became my favorite character through his mix of pragmatism and dry wit). The story itself, involving a group of unlikely allies with a plan to escape the dying planet, moved briskly and unpredictably.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves sci-fi, but tends to avoid sci-fi novels. It never overstays its welcome or gets bogged down in technobabble, moving from scene to scene like the best films of its genre. You will not be disappointed!
We have all wondered what an intergalactic war would be like, how we might defend ourselves, what would the aftermath be like. The author brings us such a story of war, survival, the aftermath, the survivors and their stories. We also get to see contact with aliens and an intergalactic fight for survival. I'm trying to write a review without spoilers, which is very hard to do. This book is well worth the read. Self-published with very few errors, a major achievement. Great story, good character development. I would have preferred to know the story behind the gun's name much earlier in the book. It came across as an adolescent tendency until the story on it was finally told. **Recommended**

I've read quite a few apocalyptic novels. Most are set in a world decimated by nuclear war, ravaged by disease, or struggling to survive when all of the modern conveniences they've come to rely on are rendered useless by EMPs. The Last Exodus has elements of these as well, but they are caused by alien invaders that leave behind a dying planet. While violence is an integral part of war and those who remain are willing to do whatever necessary to survive one more day, it was refreshing that the story could be told without cursing and vulgarity on every page. The action is nonstop and the storyline is creative and fresh...well done, Paul!!
